Ban on Zunar's 'Sapuman' book lifted

KUALA LUMPUR: The Home Ministry has lifted the ban on Zunar's comic book Sapuman: Man of Steal.

Lawyer N. Surendran who is representing Zulkiflee SM Anwarul Haque better known as Zunar, told reporters that Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who is also acting Home Minister had signed the letter lifting the ban effective Aug 2.

“The judge also allowed damages to be assessed by the deputy registrar,” he told reporters following a meeting in the chambers of High Court judge Datuk Azizah Nawawi.

Senior Federal Counsel Natrah Idris had informed the court earlier about the Home Ministry's order to lift the ban.

Zunar had obtained leave on Feb 12 for a judicial review where he named the Home Minister and the government as respondents.

He sought a certiorari order to quash the prohibition by the Home Minister under the Printing Presses and Publications (Control of Undesirable Publications) (No 29) Order 2017 regulation with immediate effect.
